MINI
(Mohamed Y Naghi Motors)
The addition of the MINI marque to the BMW stable in 2011 further extended the Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors portfolio. The present range of MINI models offers the owners a motor car that not only captures the imagination of todayÕs market but also has an incredible history.
The creator of the original Mini the late Sir Alec Issigonis was accredited as being a genius. The Mini was entirely his work and had a revolutionary design for the time - with front wheel drive, the gears mounted in the engine's sump and a transverse engine. The entire engine and transmission unit was contained on subframes and fitted compactly under the Mini's tiny bonnet.
Launched on an unprepared public on the 27th of August 1959, the car was not an immediate success, because people thought it "odd".
Once Queen Elizabeth II had been seen taking a drive in one in the early 60s, the car suddenly became a major fashion item. Every famous person had to be seen in them and the car soon became "classless"
The famous owners included the Beatles Peter Sellars, Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, David Niven, Paul Newman, Brigitte Bardot, Princess Alexandra, Prince Michael of Kent, Twiggy and many more.
Motor racing people loved the Mini too, Enzo Ferrari had three and others were owned by Jackie Stewart, Bruce McLaren, Ron Dennis, Jack Brabham, Nicki Lauda, and Ken Tyrrell....all names still famous in motor racing.
The Mini's fantastic handling combined with an excellent power-to-weight ratio made it perfect for rallying and a force to be reckoned with going on to win the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 & 1967 which should have also included1966 had it not been for some strange headlight irregularity which disqualified the car.
The BMW Group the new owners of the Mini marque launched a brand new MINI in 2001, whilst retaining the charismatic appeal of the original models the new Mini incorporated all the latest and best engineering technology and design attributes accredited to BMW.
The present day Mini with several models to choose from has become a much sought after car in today's worldwide auto markets and is again proving itself in the field of motor sport having won the 2012 Rally Dakar regarded as one of the most gruelling motor event in the sports calendar.
